Technology can make a big difference for pupils with literacy difficulties arising from dyslexia.
Modern devices have built-in tools that are ubiquitous, easy-to-use and free!
Embracing digital technology in the classroom can help learners to overcome barriers, promote inclusion and raise attainment allowing everyone to unlock their true potential.
This poster/guide recommends 8 technology tips that you can easily and quickly implement, that are either built-in to the operating system or free to download, for example;
- Using a text reader to support reading
- Speech recognition – talk to your computer
- Talking spell checker – great to help overcome difficulties with spelling
- Font styles, colours and screen tints – to aid readability
- Word prediction – to support writing
- Making papers materials accessible – use your phone to scan and read
- Sourcing digital books and resources – such as Books for All and RNIB Bookshare.
Of course there is so much more to cover and it is difficult to include everything on a poster.
So if you really want to find out more on how best to support pupils with literacy difficulties using technology, the ‘Technology to Support Dyslexia’ free online module is great starting place.
